Taranaki Multi Ethnic Extravaganza
The Taranaki Multi Ethnic extravaganza, which is run by the Taranaki Multi Ethnic Council (TMEC), is one of the largest celebrations of New Zealand’s diverse culture. This event aims to increase awareness and understanding of multi-ethnic communities throughout Taranaki. This has been an extremely popular event in the past, with over 8000 people attending in previous years. People from various communities are invited to display their cultures and lifestyles through a city centre parade at the start of the extravaganza. Local communities in the New Plymouth district benefit from a greater understanding of different ethnicities and nationalities through a fun and exciting day. All participants are actively encouraged to showcase their unique cultures through the various stage performances, arts and crafts stalls and also their food. The Extravaganza has received very positive feedback in the past, and the TMEC aims to continue hosting a very high quality event for the people of Taranaki.
Come and experience the wealth of other cultures in our city of New Plymouth. We start the day with a lively and colourful Street Parade and then host cultural groups for a fabulous day of fun, music, food, arts , crafts and children’s entertainment. See you there!
